?Monmouth College?s men crowned a league champion at the three-day Midwest Conference Swimming and Diving Championships in Grinnell, Iowa, as the Fighting Scots men and women each placed third after setting 12 school records and swimming 39 lifetime-bests.
Gabe Baginski?s conference crown in the 100-yard freestyle highlighted the weekend that saw the men jump from fifth a year ago to third this season. Erin Willhite?s pair of runner up finishes helped the women maintain their Earning his third league crown in as many years, Baginski swam a lifetime-best mark of 47.20 in the 100 free to edge Kevin Barbrick of Lake Forest by nine one-hundredths. The junior had earlier clocked a school-record 21.51 in the 50 free for a runner up finish. He also tied the Scots? record in the 200 freestyle where he was third in 1:43.47.
Willhite led a 2-3 Scots finish in the 50 freestyle on Day 1 when she set the? Monmouth record at 24.93 and Erica McAloon took third in 25.50. Willhite also swam to a runner up finish with a record in the 100 free. After breaking the record in the prelims, the sophomore rewrote the record again with a 53.87 in the finals. She also swam a PR in the 200 free where she was fourth in 1:58.50.
