ASHEBORO, N.C. ?Gov. Pat McCrory signed his first bill today at Randolph Community College in Asheboro.

Senate Bill 14 is designed to increase opportunities for high school students to enroll in career and technical education programs in areas with high employment needs.

The legislation, co-sponsored by Sen. Jerry Tillman, R-Randolph, encourages students to enroll in courses that will lead to a diploma with an endorsement indicating that they are ?career ready,? ?college ready? or both.

Students will receive a year?s worth of college credit?with these courses.

The bill also looks at ways?that will make it easier to license vocational and technical teachers.

?This is the first step forward and saying that vocational training along with a college degree are equally important to our families, economy, and society,??McCrory said.

The State Board of Education will also be required to submit a report on a yearly basis of post high school?employment rates.

The bill won?t become a law until 2014.
